7 Tips on How Get Your Skin Healthy and Ready For Summer

Summer’s here, and you know what that means! It’s time to switch from the oversized parkas to light and airy summer dresses. One small caveat however, and don’t even try to deny it: none of us have been taking proper care of our skins during those long winter months! And now that summer’s upon us, we need to get our upper dermal layers in peak condition, pronto. Here are a few things to keep in mind for that dewy fresh summer skin.

1)    Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate

Any magazine newbie is going to know the first rule of skincare. And yet, too many of us tend to skip this all-important ritual. If you want healthy and radiant skin, the first thing you need to do is exfoliate regularly, at least on a weekly basis. Exfoliation sloughs off that dry and dead scaly skin cells, causing the skin to quickly attain that healthy glow you’re craving. Of course, that’s not to say it’s some magic solution to achieving beautiful skin. You need to keep at it. Exfoliate all throughout the summer in order to smooth your skin. And exfoliation also allows your skin to better absorb other skincare products, making them even more effective.

2)    Cleanse regularly

Use a quality facial cleanser at least twice each day in order to get rid of the bacteria that can lead to acne.

3)    Make sure to moisturize

Winter’s the month most of us face dry skin troubles, so it’s small wonder that we often forego moisturizing in summer. But no matter the weather, it is essential that you gently massage your face and body with a good moisturizer brand. During summer, it’s best to use a water-cased moisturizer instead of an oil-based one so that your skin doesn’t get oily. Moisturize right after you get out of the shower and before going to bed at night.

4)    Use Toner

Toners balance the pH level of your skin, refreshing it while simultaneously removing the toxins and dirt on it. Regular application should result in the elimination of blackheads and pimples.

5)    Salicylic acid is your friend

Salicylic acid can easily be obtained over the counter at any pharmacy, and is an effective way of getting rid of breakouts all over the body. The summer months are notorious for clogging pores and causing spots and acne on your skin. You can use a body wash that contains salicylic acid on order to get rid of these. Another alternative you can use here is benzoyl peroxide. Do consult with your dermatologist before obtaining these products, however, as they can be a little harsh on sensitive skin.

6)    Never forget sunscreen

It’s pretty obvious advice. The sun can do some heavy damage to your skin. Don’t step out without applying sunscreen, and reapply it every two hours.

7)    Hydrate constantly

Drink plenty of water every day, especially when it’s extra hot or you’re about to exercise.
